Sunday Reset: A 60-Minute Routine to Start the Week Calm

Sunday evening can go two ways. Either you drift into Monday with a vague sense of dread, or you spend an hour getting ready and wake up feeling ahead. A Sunday reset is that hour.

It is not a full deep clean or a three-hour planning ritual. It is a short, repeatable routine that resets your space, your head and your calendar for the week ahead. Here is a version that fits into about 60 minutes.

The 60-minute Sunday reset

1. Reset your space (15 minutes)

  • Clear the kitchen counters and run the dishwasher.
  • Do a quick tidy of the room you work in.
  • Start a load of laundry.
  • Take out the trash and recycling.

You are not aiming for perfect, just for a home that does not greet you with chores on Monday morning.

2. Reset your head (10 minutes)

Grab a notebook and do a brain dump. Write down every task, worry, idea and reminder floating around in your mind. Then look back at last week: what went well, what did not, what is still unfinished?

3. Reset your week (20 minutes)

This is the heart of the reset.

  1. Check your calendar for appointments, deadlines and events.
  2. Choose your top three priorities for the week. If you only finished these, the week would be a win.
  3. Block time for them. Give each priority a specific slot, ideally in your best focus hours.
  4. Add buffers and keep at least some time unscheduled for the unexpected.

The free Weekly Time-Block Planner is built for exactly this. Write your top three at the top, fill your week in blocks and print it or keep it open in your browser. If you know your chronotype, it can even fill Monday to Friday around your natural energy peaks. Do not know it yet? Take the Chronotype Quiz first.

4. Prepare for Monday (10 minutes)

  • Lay out clothes for tomorrow.
  • Prep a simple breakfast or lunch.
  • Pack your bag and charge your devices.
  • Choose Monday’s first task, your frog, so you do not have to decide in the morning.

5. Reset yourself (5 minutes)

End with something restful: a short walk, a bath, reading, an early night. A reset that leaves you exhausted defeats the purpose.

Sunday reset checklist

Area Task Time
Space Kitchen, desk, laundry, trash 15 min
Head Brain dump and weekly review 10 min
Week Calendar, top 3, time blocks 20 min
Monday Clothes, food, bag, first task 10 min
You Something restful 5 min

Tips to make it stick

  • Same time every week. Late Sunday afternoon works for many people, before evening fatigue sets in.
  • Make it pleasant. Music, a podcast or a favourite drink turns it from a chore into a ritual.
  • Keep it short. If an hour feels like too much, start with just the planning part. Twenty minutes of weekly planning beats a perfect routine you skip.
  • Adapt the day. Your reset does not have to happen on Sunday. Friday afternoon or Monday morning work just as well.

The magic of a Sunday reset is not in any single step. It is in walking into Monday already knowing what matters, with a clear space and a clear head. One hour on Sunday can buy you a calmer week.
